Tourney raises scholarship funds

The Laguna Madre Area came together to support the 3rd Annual Superintendent’s Fishing Tournament which took place on Saturday, April 27. The Point Isabel Independent School District (PI-ISD) hosted the event dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships and supporting students in pursuit of higher education.

Theresa Ann Capistran, Superintendent of Schools, said, “As a school district we want to prepare students not only when they graduate high school but for their future and that can be a 4-year college, 2-year college or technical school.”

The tournament included payout amounts for the following: 1st place at $1,000, 2nd Place at $600, 3rd place at $400, and Spotted Sweepstakes for the Red Fish with the most spots at $500.

• 1st Place: Dr. Ruben & Maria Torres team
• 2nd Place: Los Tortugos team
• 3rd Place: Linebarger team

Spotted Redfish Winner: William Rodriguez and Norma Torres team

Theresa Ann Capistran continued to highlight how this year had proven better attendance and support from not only their sponsors but also PI-ISD staff. She said, “I am so thankful to all of our Point Isabel staff and support from everyone we do business with and our community.” and stated, “It’s wonderful to see how everyone said—yes, this is good for the cause!”

The superintendent would also like to thank ERO Architects, Rio Grande LNG, Viva, and Jim’s Pier and many more sponsors for helping make this event happen.
