After almost eight years since their inception, the Keep SPI Beautiful committee has finally been awarded a budget from the City. The funds are intended to further their mission to educate and engage the community to take responsibility for improving the environment and making South Padre Island a clean and beautiful environment to live, work and play.

According to Chairwoman Susan Dalton, she had recently been in contact with Mayor Barry Patel and felt a great deal of support for carrying out this mission. At last week’s City Council meeting, the ambitious group of women have been awarded their first budget in the amount of $3,850 to use towards ongoing and upcoming projects.

Over the past few months, KSPIB has made great strides in many of these projects and plans to stretch their new budget to further their efforts in the community.
