A mediation session is going forward following the longstanding annexation dispute between The City of Brownsville and the City of Port Isabel. The session, which was ordered by Judge Janet Leal for both parties to attempt to come to an agreement on an acceptable boundary line prior to a court hearing, should occur in the next 30 days according to City Attorney Robert Collins.

“If we are unable to (come to an agreement) then Judge Leal has set the case to trial,” said Collin. “Basically we will bring in our surveyors to testify about the lack of adequate legal description for the Brownsville annexations and the fact that the lines don’t join where those various annexations were claimed and so that makes them void.”
