Marcus Smith, fire chief of the South Padre Island Fire Department, has resigned his position effective April 1.
Smith tendered his letter of resignation to Wendi Delgado, administrative services director for the City of South Padre Island, on March 1. His resignation comes just as the tourist season kicks into high gear with tens of thousands of people descending onto the Island for Spring Break throughout the month of March with high traffic numbers expected to continue on into the busy summer season.
