Top 2 grads reflect on time in PI

Port Isabel High School celebrated its top two graduates this past weekend: valedictorian Simone Harry and salutatorian Brisia Gonzalez. These two outstanding young women have been lifelong Tarpons and will both be headed off to college in August.

The PRESS recently sat down with the two girls to talk about life in Port Isabel and what comes next.

Simone Harry is a Port Isabel native raised by a single mother, Sonia Harry. Simone got into sports at a young age, but her mother always reminded her that academics come first. Once she got to high school, Simone became very active in varsity sports (volleyball and track), cheerleading, National Honor Society, DECA, and a competitive dance team while still finding time to complete plenty of volunteer work.

Simone says that time management was the biggest struggle she had to overcome throughout her high school career, but credits a “good support system at home” for contributing to her success. Ultimately, she really ties all her achievements back to her mother.
