Almost every seat was taken last Friday morning as the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Breakfast with the Mayor at Pirate’s Landing. The crowd, comprised of area business owners, City staff and Port Isabel residents, had gathered to hear the first mayoral address to be delivered by Mayor Juan Jose “J.J.” Zamora.
The mayor began his address by thanking those in attendance for coming before referring to a sheaf of papers containing his speech. “We all know that the city experienced some moments of turmoil over the past few years, but despite those disruptions, the residents of this city have spoken of their desire to move forward,” Zamora said.
He soon set aside the prepared statement in favor of speaking off-the-cuff. “We’re financially fit right now,” he said.
