Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens arrested a man during the 77th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT) Saturday in connection with an incidence of cheating believed to have occurred during the Port Mansfield Fishing Tournament.

Harlingen resident Francisco E. Chamberlain, 47, was arrested by game wardens at Southpoint Marina in Port Isabel for allegedly cheating at the fishing tourney held in Willacy County the previous weekend, Game Warden Abraham Amaya said Wednesday. “The warrant was issued for fraud in a fishing tournament, which is a Class A misdemeanor,” Amaya said.

Cameron County Game Warden, Capt. James Dunks, said the charge can range from a Class A misdemeanor to a third degree felony depending on the severity of the crime.

“With the evidence that we have collected, we have reason to believe (Chamberlain) cheated at the Port Mansfield tournament,” Amaya said.
