Who doesn’t love a parade? As American as baseball, hot dogs and apple pie, many enjoy celebrating our nation’s holidays by either watching or participating in these time-honored traditions. Throw in beautiful beaches, blue skies and festive costumes, and you have the makings of a picture-perfect parade.
That’s just what took place on South Padre Island on July 4th, as a lively crowd of families, friends and critters came out to enjoy the annual SPI Beach Parade. Red, white and blue were the colors of the day, as a multitude of flag bearing patriots and their kids and pets marched from Beach Access 20 to Access 17. The event culminated in a staging area replete with free watermelon, ice cold bottles of water and a firehose-turned sprinkler provided by the SPI Fire Department for dogs, kids and adults to frolic in and cool off after the parade.
Susie and Chris Sanchez from San Antonio, brought their grandchildren Starla and Logan to view the festivities. “Our daughter came last year and she told us about it, so we decided to come down and check it out,” Susie explained, adding that their family enjoys frequent visits to SPI.
