Projects, budgets on Island agendas

In parallel to the Island’s busiest season, SPI city committees have also been very active in preparation for the upcoming year. Along with other city committees, the City Council has held a variety of strategic planning workshops and special meetings over the past month. Business and budget plans for the next fiscal year are well underway with positive projections.

City Council members recently met with the City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) board to discuss projects and initiatives for the upcoming fiscal year. With increased attendance and revenue at the Birding and Nature Center, which has been a major project for the EDC, the board can now focus some of their attention to other development projects.

Based on a September survey facilitated by the EDC, the community voted that one of the main priorities the board should focus on was beautification and infrastructure improvements. One of their recent development efforts included a contribution to the new SPI city park for the addition of a skate park.
