Plans to build a safety enclosure for employees at Laguna Vista Public Library advanced here with the Town Council’s support on Tuesday.
“This would be needed in the event that someone comes in with a gun and starts firing,” City Manager Rolando Vela said.
“It is for protection,” Library Director Pura Mirales said. “It would reinforce e front end of the library so we could go into the office,” she added.
Councilman Gary Meschi asked for a description of the proposed project. “Is it a safe room?” he asked.
“No, it would have reinforced, bullet-proof glass,” Vela said.
Funding sources for the project were raised.
