The Laguna Madre Water District Board of Directors said farewell to one of its members as they accepted the resignation of Martin Cantu, Jr. during a regular meeting Wednesday. Cantu was not present, but Chairman Jeff Keplinger recognized Cantu, saying, “We appreciate Mr. Cantu for his service and we wish him luck in Port Isabel.” The discussion to consider and approve his replacement, however, was tabled until the board reaches a decision as to who will fill Cantu’s vacancy. No potential candidates were mentioned during the meeting.

Also on the agenda was the need to appoint a new secretary for the LMWD. At first this item was to be tabled as well, but general manager Carlos Galvan spoke up saying, “I was going to recommend that we need to move faster on this, because it takes like three weeks to change everything.” Shortly thereafter, Director Scott Friedman was nominated and approved as secretary.
