The Point Isabel Board of Trustees sat in executive session for almost two hours Tuesday as they first held and then deliberated a grievance hearing regarding the ranks of Port Isabel High School’s top two prospective graduates.

In the end, the board voted to recognize the rankings as originally presented by administrators. “The decision of the board was to uphold the administration’s remedy, which was to deny the parents’ grievance. The effect of that was that the calculation that was made by the District is going to be upheld,” said attorney Kevin O’Hanlon, who represented the District both during the grievance and court proceedings.

The decision means Myranda Woolly, the senior whose parents filed the grievance on her behalf, will be recognized as this year’s salutatorian while Marina Wise Herring will be recognized as valedictorian during commencement ceremonies to be held this Saturday.
