The Port Isabel High Lady Tarpons softball team has made the playoffs. Last Friday night, at home, the team got past La Feria, 2-1, in the final district contest of the season.
The Lady Tarpons enter the post-season as the No. 4 seed from District 32-4A, and will face Rockport-Fulton this Friday night in Kingsville in a bi-district matchup.
Port Isabel finished the district season with a 9-5 record, which tied the team with Zapata for third place in the final standings. Rio Hondo is the district champion with a 14-0 record and second-place Hidalgo finished at 10-4. Port Isabel, Hidalgo, and Zapata all split their two-game series with each other. The top four teams qualify for the playoffs and it came down to a coin flip to determine the No. 3 and 4 seeds for the post-season. Zapata won the flip and goes in as the No. 3 seed from the district.
