South Padre Island’s Hilton Garden Inn was once again the site for an annual meeting of meteorologists from across the nation for the purpose of discussing the upcoming hurricane season and other weather-related events along the Gulf Coast and outlying areas. The meeting, which was held here last week, is appropriately dubbed TheNational Tropical Weather Conference and brings together approximately 75 meteorologists, according to co-organizer and KRGV-TV Chief Meteorologist Tim Smith.

“This is really our primer to the hurricane season. This gives us an idea what to overall expect, but the old line is that it only takes one, so you should always prepare as if there is going to be one, and it’s going to hit you. That’s how we should prepare, this and every year,” Smith said.
