They say everything is bigger in Texas. They also say don’t mess with Texas. This Saturday, the two will combine as thousands of people across the Texas Gulf Coast will take part in one of the largest beach clean-up efforts in honor of the 30th anniversary of Texas Adopt-a-Beach.

Here in the Rio Grande Valley, several beach cleanups are scheduled to occur from the north end of South Padre Island to the south, as well as Boca Chica Beach.

“Our numbers have been large and they’ve been growing,” said SPI site coordinator Elaine Sanchez earlier this week. “We have over 500 people signed up just for the City currently,” she said.

The City of South Padre Island will be hosting their version of the cleanup at City Access #3, located between Palm and Corral Streets.

People interested in volunteering can register online, or directly at the site on cleanup day. “We’ll have a lot of people,” Sanchez said.
