Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church parishioners celebrated the 40th anniversary of priesthood for the Rev. Michael Gnanaraj, parochial vicar on Sunday.

Bishop Daniel Flores led a Mass in honor of  the reverend, known as Father Mike to his parishioners, and a celebration followed at the Port Isabel Events and Cultural Center where he was presented gifts including a Spiritual Bouquet which consisted of prayers collected and recited for him by the congregation.

Gnanaraj was born the sixth child in a family of eight to Mariamichael and Ranjitham Ammal in 1947 in Palasapuram, India. His mother was a teacher and father was a businessman in Sri Lanka. His three sisters became teachers, his elder brother was a businessman, his younger brother an engineer and he became a priest.
