With a quorum present at a regular meeting of the Public Improvement District #1 (PID) on Friday, Jan. 29, the three directors present voted to approve an interlocal agreement with the City of Port Isabel. The Port Isabel City Commission similarly approved the agreement in their regular meeting held on Jan. 26.

The agreement marks one of the first steps in spurring the development of two stretches of land in The Fingers, also known as Modern Venice, which have remained undeveloped for decades. Island Avenue is also included within the PID’s boundaries.

Now that both parties are officially on board, the hope is that the PID can begin creating the infrastructure necessary to facilitate development, including installing streets and utilities.

According to the agreement, “Port Isabel will provide administrative services to the District, including accounting, recordkeeping and general secretarial services.” The City will also serve as the PID’s fiscal agent and will be responsible for taking payments and disbursements on its behalf.
