As the Press and Parade were prepared for print the social media rumor mill was abuzz with a celebrity sighting. UFC champion Ronda Rousey had been spotted in the Lone Star State — inside a Kingsville Walmart, of all places —perhaps buying a hunting or fishing license.

News outlets from Corpus Christi and San Antonio circulated photos fans reportedly took inside the store with the femme fatale of the octagon. Word is Ms. Rousey may be on her way to the Laguna Madre area. If she is, it wouldn’t be the first time the Rio Grande Valley has seen a celebrity.

Whether for business or pleasure, our quiet little corner of the world presents an attractive destination for celebrities. From silver screen superstar Mel Gibson to former Pan Am student Valente Rodriguez — more commonly known as “Ernie” on the George Lopez Show — we’ve played host to quite a few familiar faces.

Former Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria, a native of Corpus Christi, is known to frequent eateries in McAllen. Martin Sheen has hung out at a golf course in Harlingen. Danny Trejo, whom most folks know as “Machete,” has come down to greet fans at local haunted houses during the Halloween horror season.

We’ve had NFL stars and NBA stars, and all sorts of other athletes visit us, too. Most recently, the Island played host to actor Steven Baldwin, who was in town working on a film.

If Ms. Rousey is, indeed, on her way to the Valley and makes a stop along the coast, I know she’ll have plenty of amazing options to choose from when it comes to bay or offshore fishing, and even hunting. I wonder if the fish will stand as much of a chance against her as her UFC opponents? Somehow, I think she’ll end up the champion in the sportfishing arena, as well. It’ll be hard, though, for her to beat the 34 second time against her most recent opponent, Bethe Correia, whom she defeated in Rio De Janeiro earlier this month to successfully defend her UFC title.

Well, wherever you decide to go, Ms. Rousey, welcome to the Lone Star State nonetheless! Save travels and happy hunting or fishing.
