Fiesta Padre kicks off Memorial Day weekend

Summer on the Island is getting started with a four-day-long Memorial Day weekend celebration called Fiesta Padre.
The event, which will feature live music by Leslie Blasing, as well as vendors of all sorts, will also give visitors a chance to learn how to build sandcastles and sand sculptures, such as the event’s centerpiece created by sand sculptor Andy Hancock.
Sitting front and center on the beach behind the Pearl South Padre is an homage Hancock created to Texas history itself: a reconstruction of the Alamo.
