Tarpon logoThe Port Isabel Tarpons jumped on the Red Ants of Progreso with two touchdowns in the first three minutes of the game last Friday night and were in control the entire night as they won their district season opener, 61-7, at Red Ant Stadium.

On the Tarpons’ first series Jaime “JJ” Gonzalez zipped 71 yards for the first score of the night and, just over a minute later, intercepted a Progreso pass deep in Red Ant territory and took it in. At the 9:16 mark of the first quarter Port Isabel led 14-0.

On the interception Gonzalez was able to read the route and anticipate the throw; “It was a great feeling. We study film all the time…I saw the route and, boom, I jumped on it.”
