Big Squeeze winner to perform at cultural arts center

The Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center will soon host accordionist Peter Anzaldua from Brownsville at its next monthly program.

Scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 28, inside the center, located at 225 E. Stenger St. in San Benito, is Anzaldua in an evening of unplugged accordion-driven conjunto music from the 2012 Big Squeeze Accordion Contest winner.

In June 2012, Anzaldua competed with young accordionists across the state to win Texas Folklife Resource’s 29th Annual Accordion Kings and Queens Big Squeeze contest in Houston. In addition to taking home the top prize of $1,000 and an Hohner Classic II accordion, Anzaldua had the opportunity to play a set on the Miller Outdoor stage with headliners Flaco Jimenez, Mingo Saldivar and the Texmaniacs.
