Vacationer drowns on Christmas day

emergency-lightsA Missouri man vacationing at South Padre Island drowned on Christmas day.

The South Padre Island Beach Patrol responded to a swimmer in distress call on December 25. The distress call was received just before noon regarding a swimmer in distress approximately two miles north of the 6200 block of section C, near The Shores.

South Padre Island Fire and EMS responded to the call and were on scene where they located a floating body, later identified as Timothy James Harrison.

Harrison, who was vacationing with his family, was 44 years old and from Milan, Missouri.

Officers were informed Harrison went into the water from around the area of the Travelodge and he had not been seen for about 15 minutes. The swimmer was caught in a rip current that carried him near to beach access 5.

The swimmer’s three sons also tried rescuing him to no avail.

Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa pronounced Harrison deceased at 12 p.m.
