Season culminates in tailgate party

PRESS Staff Report

TarponsWhat do you get when you put 48 volleyball families, 48 volleyball players, fans, food and drinks in the Port Isabel High School parking lot? It was the Third Annual Parent Night Tailgate Party to honor the athletes’ 2012 season.

The athletic magic of the evening was made even sweeter when the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams put a “W” in the win column to culminate their district season play. Coach Howard, Coach Hernandez and Coach Hamilton led the charge.

Parents applauded the athletic department, Laura Orive, the high school security personnel, and others that volunteered to lift that cooler, sling the chili and cheese, and roll up their sleeves for a feeding frenzy that was enjoyed by all.

“The families were fabulous with their donations and involvement, and I wish to thank them personally,” stated parent Monica Loya. “This is a potluck dinner with a strong family based support group for their PIHS athletes.”
