Birders invited to ‘Digiscoping on the Deck’

Special to the Parade

Have you heard of digiscoping?

Did you know that with your pocket point-and-shoot camera and a spotting scope you can take amazing photos of birds as if you had a telephoto lens? You have two opportunities on each of three days to join our instructor Clay Taylor to learn this amazing new way to take great photos.

Join birders in the morning at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center, located on 6801 Padre Blvd., from 8-11 a.m., and then in the afternoon at the Estero Llano Grande State Parks and World Birding Center in Weslaco, located on 3301 S. International Blvd. (FM 1015), from 1-4 p.m. on the deck.

This is a great opportunity to not only learn about digiscoping, but to also talk to Clay about some of the great new binoculars and scopes from Swarovski. If you are looking for the next new thing in nature photography or just want to learn a new skill, this program is considered a must.

Be sure to bring cameras and scopes. Clay can help you understand your own equipment better. If you don’t have any equipment of your own and want to learn what to buy and how to get started, Clay will have a few you can try out during the program. Remember to bring extra batteries for your cameras and a memory card with lots of free space so that you can take lots of photos of the wonderful wildlife and views at these two locations.

Payment of regular entry fees at both parks is necessary.

These events will be held Jan. 10 and 24 as well as Feb. 21.
