McAllen Chamber, Mexican Consulate prepare for ‘A Vibrant Heritage’

A Vibrant Heritage

Special to the Parade

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce in alliance with the Mexican Consulate in McAllen are diligently working on the preparations for the third “A Vibrant Heritage” Mexican Artisan Expo.

This expo iteration is planned to be the biggest ever as it will be combined with the very successful McAllen International Travel Show. This is scheduled for Jan. 4-5, 2012 at the McAllen Convention Center.

“We decided to combine our artisan expo with the International Travel Show to create a synergy that we think will have very positive results,” commented Luis Cantu, V.P. at the Chamber. “The Travel show usually draws around 14,000 people throughout the two-day event, most of them Winter Texans. The Artisan Expo draws around 4,000 people and most of them locals,” Cantu continued. “This combination, we think, will create the right mix to benefit the exhibitors as well as the visitors.”

Hundreds of exhibitors participate at the travel show from all over the country to promote their cities or locations as a visitor’s destination. Now included in the show will be more than 80 artisans from various regions in Mexico who will display some of the best arts, clothing, crafts and candies Mexico is renowned for. In addition to this, performers from the interior of Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley will entertain visitors of all ages with their music and dances.

Entrance to the Mexican Expo and International Travel Show is free to the public so that everyone can enjoy the rich culture and arts brought by the artisans who will be selling their artwork during the event and learn about the many locations and promotions available to travel. The event will include special entertainment for children with clowns and music.
