Tarpon field goal finishes off Zapata, 31-28

On Friday night, in Tarpon Stadium, the Tarpons defeated the Zapta Hawks, 31-28 on a placement kick for three points. Edgar Garcia made a 19-yard field goal with five seconds to play, and the Tarpons pulled one out against the visit¬ing Hawks. Twice Port Isabel took a two-touchdown lead early in the game. But the Hawks counter-attacked with two long scoring runs and with 6:12 to go in the fourth period, the score was tied at 28. Two minutes later, after a Tarpon punt, Zapata started at their own 42 yardline. On the second play, the Hawks fumbled and the Tarpons recovered on the Zapata 49. Two years ago, the Port Isabel Tarpons lost to Zapata in overtime after missing a go-ahead field goal with sec­onds to go in regulation. Also in 2009, the Tarpons lost on a field goal in overtime to Hidalgo. On Friday night, in Tarpon Stadium, the issue was again decided on a placement kick for three points, and this time, it was Port Isabel that got the kick and the win.

Edgar Garcia made a 19-yard field goal with five sec­onds to play, and the Tarpons pulled one out against the vis­iting Zapata Hawks, 31-28.

Twice Port Isabel took a two-touchdown lead, and the score was 28-14, Tarpons, with five minutes to go in the third quarter. But the Hawks counter-attacked with two long scoring runs, and with 6:12 to go in the fourth pe­riod, the score was tied at 28.
