The JV Tarpon football team defeated the Zapata Hawks, 14-6 to open district play on Thursday.
The Tarpon defense swarmed the Hawks all night, causing four turnovers. The turnovers were caused by Luis San Juan, Pedro Villareal, Cesar Herbert, and Jason Shrank. Down 6-0 in the third quarter, the Tarpons came back on L.B. Bennett’s long touchdown run. Randy Garcia kicked the extra point to give the Tarpons a 7-6 lead.
After another stop by the Tarpon defense late in the fourth quarter, running back Manny De La Rosa broke free for a long scoring run to seal the win. Randy Garcia kicked the point for the victory.
