Special to the PRESS

The Port Isabel Junior High seventh and eighth grade cross country teams traveled to Edcouch-Elsa on Saturday for their last tune-up meet before the district meet in Progreso.

The teams did well, in particular were the seventh grade girls, who for the second week in a row, won the meet. The girls came up with 48 points from their top five finishers which actually tied them with Kenmont Academy. In order to break the tie, the judges looked at sixth place for both teams. PI’s sixth place finisher came in ahead of Kenmont’s, securing the victory.

Top finishers for seventh  grade were Simone Harry with third place, Brisia Gonzalez took sixth, Kenedy Martinez followed with eighth, Jasmine Saldivar came in at 11th, Clara Christensen in 20th, Daniela Pazos in 41st and Leslie Torres taking up  44th.

On the boys side, the seventh graders finished in this order: Thomas Thirwall with 17th place, Andrew Ogletree in 35th, Lucas Gandler in 38th, Edrick Cuevas in 46th, and Phillip Canales coming in 51st.
