The South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center will be showing the following features during the month of September: Sept. 2: Year in South Texas Wildland; Sept. 9: Ghost Bird!; Sept. 16: Winged Migration; Sept. 23: Secrets of the Chaparral; and Sept. 30: March of the Penguins. • Sept. 29 – Coffee and Conversation – South Padre Island
The public is invited to come join in coffee and conversation to learn more about the difference of the South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation (EDC) going from a Type A EDC to a Type B EDC, which will be in the upcoming city election. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers. The location of the conference time is Café Kranzler, 2412 Padre Blvd.Thursday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m.
• Sept. 29 – Telling our Stories – Port Isabel
Museums of Port Isabel is back with it’s sessions of “Telling our Stories,” Thursday, Sept. 29 will be featuring the topic of “Researching & Writing about Local History”. The event will be located at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum and will take place at 6:30 p.m.
• Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 – 8th annual South Padre Island Walk for Women – South Padre Island
Walk for Women, Inc. is an organization initiated by local women to heighten breast cancer awareness and to raise money for the area residents affected by this disease and who are in need of financial assistance. Sept. 30 begins the 8th Annual Walk for Women. A three day event dedicated to financially assisting local residents who are fighting breast cancer.
• Oct. 1 – Ghost Tours – Port Isabel
Every Saturday evening in October at 8 p.m. The one hour walking tour begins in the parking lot of the Historic Museum of Port Isabel.. Tickets available at the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce, City Hall and Museums of Port Isabel. For more information, contact the Chamber office at (956) 943-2262.
• Oct. 1 – Day of the Dead altar displays – Port Isabel
The Museums of Port Isabel will be offering a Dia de los Muertos altar display for the public to see started Saturday, Oct. 1. Contact the museum for more information on the event at (956) 943-7602.
• Oct. 15 – Zumbathon Charity – Port Isabel
A Zumbathon Charity Event Benefiting Susan G. Komen will be hosted Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Port Isabel Junior High School. Admission is $15 per person. Olympian Fitness, the Port Isabel Junior High and Zumba Fitness are teaming up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its global nonprofit partners through the global Party In PinkTM movement to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.
• Oct. 20 – 12th Annual Lights on AfterSchool – Port Isabel
On Oct. 20, the Boys and Girls Club will celebrate “Lights on Afterschool” with a youth rally. Join 1 million Americans and 7,500 plus communities nationwide in celebrating the afterschool programs that keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and help working families.

• Every Wednesday – Maxan Street Farmers’ Market – Port Isabel

Farmers market takes place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the South Padre Island Golf Course Clubhouse. Buy healthy fresh produce, fresh eggs, lamb and beef, baked goods and honey.
• Every Saturday – Harlingen Farmers Market – Harlingen
Buy healthy food, including fresh-picked organic vegetables and fruit, pastured chicken and lamb, grass-fed beef and free-range eggs every Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is on ‘A’ Street, between Jackson and Monroe in downtown Harlingen.
• Donate your old towels to the Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter – Port Isabel
