The cities of Port Isabel and South Padre Island held ceremonies over the weekend to remember the victims of the 9/11 Trade Center attacks.

On Friday, Sept. 9, Port Isabel citizens gathered at the historic lighthouse to pay tribute to the lost lives from 10 years ago and honor the men and women who have served the community then and now.

Mayor Joe Vega commended Port Isabel’s local hero’s for their willingness to serve and encouraged the community to keep the memory of the infamous day alive to honor those who died.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, a large gathering sat in front of the South Padre Island City Hall to pay tribute to the fallen as well as see the 9/11 artifact that was donated to the SPI Fire Department.
