A new kind of hobo is sweeping the streets of Port Isabel. With the lack of rainfall over the summer, alligators have been roaming around town and into the Bay area looking for a new, wet place to live.
“They are water-based animals and everything else is drying up, you know? They’re just looking for water. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell,” said Biologist Sam Patton.
A common myth is that alligators cannot survive in salt water—but residents of the Port Isabel area are well aware that the ‘gators have been making a home of the Bay-side.
