On Tuesday, August 2, the South Padre Island Police, Fire and Code Enforcement hosted their Annual National Night Out event along with thousands of communities nationwide. It was South Padre Island’s second time to host the event which took place at the Island Baptist Church parking lot.
National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local law enforcement partners. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and most importantly, send a message that SPI neighborhoods are united and fighting back.
The atmosphere at the event was one of fun, games and safety. Over 200 kids and adults were able to meet the real life heroes of the Island and play games for prizes, while South Padre Island Police Chief Randy Smith kept it real in the DJ booth with music.
