The South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce hosted a mixer on the Island to kick off the 16 Leadership Laguna Madre (LLM) class on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
Members from the community, both seasoned and new, came to learn about LLM, a class that spans over a nine month period to train a future set of leaders, or to simply familiarize locals with the things that make Laguna Madre function, according to leaders in the program.
According to a handout by LLM, “Using a nine month curriculum, the program will teach participants about major community issues and ways to find solutions to existing problems. During the course of the program, participants will make important contacts with other community leaders in areas such as government, industry, education, health, and commerce.”
A surprise visit by Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones was met with applause as he shared his beliefs of the need for leadership.
