South Padre Island Master Sand Sculptor Lucinda “Sandy Feet” Wierenga has made her mark on the Island landscape.

Wierenga has taught thousands of people how to build sand castles; she has written three books on the subject, designed a line of sand sculpture tools and released an iPhone Ap on how to build a better sand castle.

Before she became Sandy Feet, Wierenga was a high-school English teacher from Michigan who moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1980 and fell in love with the beach.

Her newest undertaking is sand portraits. (Courtesy photo)
