The Rio Grande Valley Baseball Coaches Association East-West All Start game was played last Saturday in La Joya. Recent and former Tarpon pitcher/outfielder Bobby Barker was the only Port Isabel player to be selected for the game and, as it turned out, played both positions.

It was the 29th edition of the annual contest and the outcome was essentially decided in the first two innings. The West team scored nine runs in the first inning and four in the second to take a 13-0 lead into the third. Two East pitchers, both from 5A schools, were chased in the process. When the East squad came to bat in the bottom of the third they were in a 14-0 hole, and the game was all but over.
