The search for new legal representation is underway in Laguna Vista following the resignation of attorney Janice Cassidy.
Cassidy resigned her position earlier this month.
In the interim, Weslaco-based attorney Ramon Vela was tapped by the City Council to serve the Town on an as-needed basis.
Vela has a 29-year practice in Weslaco and is well experienced in municipal law, Councilman Bill Schnier said at the Town’s June meeting. Vela is expected to serve until such time as a new full-time attorney can be hired, officials said. The interim pay structure calls for a rate structure that includes a $250 monthly retainer, $200/ hour for municipal trials and $125/hour for pretrial preparation and other services.
