Something Borrowed

At the Church’s Chicken on HWY 100, a man requested police assistance in finding his car. The victim claimed to have lent out the vehicle to a friend, and it had yet to be returned. Officers said they would be on the lookout for the vehicle.

 May 4, 2011 – 6:24 p.m.

Arrested Development

An officer was patrolling the 500 block of Gonzalez and spotted a man, talking on his cell, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The officer checked to see if all the warrants were valid. When the officer discovered they were, he proceeded to arrest the subject, and another patrol car was called  to bring the man to jail.

 May 3, 2011 – 9:55 p.m.

Trouble in Verona

An attempted sexual assault was reported to take place at the 700 block of Champion inside a blue 2005 Suzuki Verona. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.

May 5, 2011 – 5:18 p.m.

Mom to the Rescue

An officer conducted a traffic stop at the 100 block of Hockaday. As the officer questioned the driver, a woman, claiming to be the driver’s mother, arrived. After running a check on “mom,” it was discovered that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest. The officer advised “mom” of her warrants and arrested her. She was brought to Port Isabel City Jail and booked.

 May 5, 2011 – 8:04 p.m.

The Inside Job

A Port Isabel resident’s windshield was damaged from the inside of his car and inspection sticker was partially removed. It is presumed the perpetrator was trying to steal the inspection sticker and broke the windshield in the process. 

May 6, 2011 – 1:00 a.m.

Drunk in Public

Four subjects, two males and two females, were pulled over at 100 block of Hwy 100 for going 59 mph in a 35 mph zone. The driver was arrested and booked for a DUI while the passengers were arrested for substance possession and/or drunk in public charges.

May 6, 2011 -11:04 p.m.

One Man’s Junk

Near Derry Elementary, a police officer found a cardboard box in the middle of the road full of 15 electronic boards from a phone company. Apparently the box fell out of one of their trucks. The officer brought the contents to the company’s center at the 300 block of S. Musina.

May 7, 2011 – 12:06 p.m.

Hot Pursuit

At the Port Isabel Wal-Mart, a man was chasing two juveniles around the store swinging his belt as if he was going to hit them. The manager detained them and called the cops on a shoplifting claim. When the officer arrived, the situation was assessed. The man was the juveniles’ uncle and he was attempting to discipline them for hiding in the store and scaring their mother for the second time that week.
