2011 Kite Round-up underway on SPI

On May 18 the 2011 South Padre Island Kite Round-up kicked off on a beautiful day with great winds for the kite boarders. The eventruns through May 22 with different contests every day. The event and contests are open to the public, with many kite boarding clinics and kite boarding gear demonstrations.

There are multiple contests including freestyle, speed trials, boarder-cross, long jump, and max spin. The newest event this year is the infamous “wipe-out” contest, which anyone can win “by accident”. The wipe-out award is given daily by event announcers Grom and Neil Hutchins to the person with the most memorable wipe-out and is not limited to those in the water.

The base pre-registration price is $69, which grants you access to kite boarding contests, demos, nightlife, lodging specials, clinics, activities and more.
