Barker pitches no-hitter

One run was enough for Bobby Barker, pitcher for the Port Isabel Tarpon Varsity Baseball Team. The Port Isabel Tarpons scored a single run in a rivalry game against La Feria and Barker did the rest as the senior pitcher hurled a gem in a 1-0, no-hit win recently. Barker retired the first 15 hitters in the game and was untouched as he mowed down hitter after hitter for the win. Recording 11 strikeouts in the game, he also had plenty of help from his defense. In the fifth inning, the Lions made bids for hits but third baseman Jesse Loela made a terrific play down the line on a ground-ball. Then in the same inning, center-fielder Almando Fierro made a diving catch that turning into the play of the day.
