The Laguna Vista Fire Department received recognition for its contributions and assistance in a recent fire on South Padre Island. This comes as the department continues to expand with additional volunteers and much needed training.

“We are very proud of what is going on here,” said Laguna Vista City Manager Rolando Vela, “the department has been training very hard and this is a very big deal for us.”

According to acting Fire Chief Robert McGinnis the department received a call Feb. 12 for assistance from the Island and responded immediately.

“We had 10 volunteers that responded,” he said, “and they were on the scene within 12 minutes.”
