EDC director charged in death

A weekend crash that in­volved a motorcycle and an SUV driven by the South Pa­dre Island Economic Devel­opment Corporation (EDC) Director has resulted in a fa­tality.

The Saturday night ac­cident cost the life of a man identified as 63-year-old Jimmie Anklam. Anklam and his wife were on a mo­torcycle that collided with a SUV driven by South Padre Island’s EDC Director, Darla Lapeyre, on Padre Blvd.

The full extent of charges on this matter will be known after toxicology results come in which could take up to five additional days. The director may be facing more serious charges after the man passed away on Monday.
