On Wednesday, January 26th, Marilyn Ratliff presented a check to the Laguna Madre Humane Society (LMHS) for $5,000.

The check was a gift from Ratliff and her husband Joe who reside in Park Center RV Park in Port Isabel.

She had originally planned on leaving the money to the Human Society as one of her final wishes in her living will; however, her friends convinced her that she should donate it now so that she can see the good that it will do and hopefully get to see the chain of love continued by others.

Ratliff wanted everyone to know that any donation that a person, family, or organization could give to the LMHS would be greatly appreciated. People wishing to do so, can donate money directly to the Laguna Madre Humane Society seven days a week from 8 a.m. thru 4:30 p.m. The LMHS is located at 262 Woody Lane in Port Isabel. A receipt for all donations will be provided for tax write off purposes.

Aside from monetary donations, the LMHS will accept anything of value to be sold at their thrift shop. The thrift shop called Whiskers and Things is located at 5800 Padre Blvd. on South Padre Island, TX and can be reached at 433-9582.
