They’re so hot, they’ll fog up your lens!

Of course, that’s if you just happened to be a newspaper photographer assigned to shoot a Zumba class at Port Isabel’s The Gym.

The Gym’s jam-packed morning Zumba class has proven to not only fog up lenses, but even get spectators sweating.

Fitness trainers Sandi Gentry and Kathryn Pulkingham say that Zumba burns about 900 calories in a typical hour-long session. That’s more calories than jogging on the treadmill for an hour, minus the tedium. In addition, it’s fun. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that Zumba has taken the world by storm and the Laguna Madre area is no different.

Zumba is an aerobic fitness program created by Miami-based dancer and choreographer Beto Perez and two entrepreneurs, Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. It originated in Colombia in the 1990s and is taught by some 20,000 instructors in 35 countries.
