Tarpons place third at tournament

By LARRY GAGE

It was close. The Port Isabel High girls’ basketball team came up short by a single point in their semi-final game against Mission last Friday in the Tommy Wiseman Tournament at La Feria.  When the low-scoring contest was over the scoreboard showed a 29-28 final score in favor of the Lady Eagles.

“They (Mission) play at a very deliberate pace,” head P.I. coach Alan Ward said on Sunday.  “Defensively we did well.  We made them work for everything they got.”

The Lady Tarpons’ complete lack of success in their outside shooting game had a lot to do with the final outcome.  They were 0-17 on three-point shots.
