The Port Isabel Tarpons overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit at Santa Maria Tuesday night and took the win in overtime, 46-45.
Trailing by two with seconds to go in regulation the Tarpons went for the win. “Kenny Herrera tried a 3-point shot, missed, and followed his own shot for the bucket and the tie, and it was on to overtime,” head P.I. coach Al Senteno reported by telephone Thursday morning. The decisive play came with less than half a minute to go in the extra period. Roger Villareal stole the ball and drove in for the winning basket on a lay-up with 18 seconds on the clock.
