Lady Tarpons all over Lyford, 60-21

By LARRY GAGE

The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons jumped out to a 15-5 1st-quarter lead and ran away from the Lady Bulldogs of Lyford on Tuesday night at Tarpon Gym, winning by the lopsided score of 60-21.

“They’re (Lyford) very young, mostly sophomores,” head P.I. coach Alan Ward said after the game.

Clearly the advantage was with Port Isabel from the start, so the opportunity was taken to work on variations of the Lady Tarpons’ defensive game. “We worked on a new defense that we haven’t played before in the second half,” Coach Ward said. “We had just installed this half-court defense yesterday in practice. We got everybody a chance to work on it.”
